Hello.

你好。

My name is Emma, and in today's video I am going to teach you an amazing way to listen and take notes.

我的名字是艾玛,在今天的视频中,我将教你一种惊人的倾听和做笔记的方式。

This method I am going to teach you today is really, really going to help you, and I know this because I use this method myself, and I found it has really, really helped me when I was in university, during meetings, during all sorts of different situations.

我今天要教你们的这个方法真的,真的会帮助你们,我知道这一点,因为我自己也使用过这种方法,我发现当我在大学时,在会议期间,在各种不同的情况下,它真的,真的帮助了我。

This method really works.

这种方法确实有效。

So, first, before I teach you about the method, I want you to think about yourself and I want you to think about: When do you take notes?

所以,首先,在我教你这个方法之前,我希望你想想你自己,我想让你思考:你什么时候做笔记?

So, when do you listen and when do you take notes?

那么,你什么时候听,什么时候做笔记?

So, some of you might think. . .

所以,你们中的一些人可能会认为…

Maybe you're in university, maybe you're in college, maybe you're in high school, and you have to listen to your teacher talk, and you have to take notes to help you remember what they are saying.

也许你在大学,也许你在大学,也许你在高中,你必须听你的老师说话,你必须做笔记来帮助你记住他们在说什么。

Maybe you've graduated and you're working in a business, and you have meetings and. . .

也许你已经毕业了,你正在一家企业工作,你有会议和…

Or presentations, and you also need to take notes.

或演示文稿,您还需要做笔记。

So, this method will work for whether you're working or you're studying.

因此,无论您是在工作还是在学习,这种方法都有效。

Maybe you're taking the IELTS or the TOEFL, this can also help you on the TOEFL test in terms of improving your listening and taking notes.

也许您正在参加雅思考试或托福考试,这也可以帮助您参加托福考试,提高听力和做笔记。

So, how do you take notes?

那么,你如何做笔记呢?

I know some students, they watch their professor or their teacher talk, and they use their computer, and they just type everything their professor or teacher says.

我认识一些学生,他们看着他们的教授或老师说话,他们使用他们的电脑,他们只是输入他们的教授或老师说的所有话。

Is this something you do?

这是你做的吗?

Maybe you write your notes, and you write every single thing your professor says down on a piece of paper, or anything somebody says.

也许你写下你的笔记,你把你的教授说的每一件事都写在一张纸上,或者别人说的任何话。

Well, there are a couple of problems with these methods, and I'm going to explain to you some of the problems now.

好吧,这些方法有几个问题,我现在要向你解释一些问题。

So, for people who like to take notes by computer, there are some advantages of this.

因此,对于喜欢通过计算机做笔记的人来说,这样做有一些优点。

You're able to type really quickly and you're able to get a lot of what you hear down on your computer, and it's easy to save.

您可以非常快速地打字,并且可以在计算机上获得很多您听到的内容,并且很容易保存。

But the problem with this is it's a type of passive listening.

但问题是,这是一种被动的倾听。

So, a lot of the times you're not actually using your brain to interpret what you're listening to, and you're not actively listening.

所以,很多时候你实际上并没有用你的大脑来解释你在听什么,你也没有积极地倾听。

You're just copying word for word, you're not actually doing anything active with the material you're listening to.

你只是在逐字逐句地复制,你实际上并没有对你正在听的材料做任何积极的事情。

So, working with a computer-and I've seen this in my university-a lot of students also end up going on Facebook during the lesson or lecture.

所以,使用计算机 – 我在我的大学里看到过这一点 – 很多学生最终也会在上课或讲座期间使用Facebook

So, a lot of the times they get very distracted.

所以,很多时候他们非常分心。

When they should be listening, they're actually not.

当他们应该倾听时,他们实际上并没有。

So, for me personally and I think for a lot of people, using a computer to take notes is not the best method.

所以,就我个人而言,我认为对于很多人来说,使用电脑做笔记并不是最好的方法。

Again, for some people it might work, but for a lot of people it doesn't.

同样,对于某些人来说,它可能有效,但对于很多人来说,它不起作用。

A lot of the times it's actually better to take notes by hand, and the reason is when you take notes by hand, you have to think about what you're writing because writing takes a bit longer than typing.

很多时候,用手记笔记实际上更好,原因是当你手记笔记时,你必须考虑你在写什么,因为写作比打字需要更长的时间。

So you're organizing the material, therefore it's more of an active way to listen.

所以你正在组织材料,因此它更像是一种积极的倾听方式。

And they've done psychology studies on this, and they do find that taking your notes by hand is often better than taking notes by a computer.

他们已经对此进行了心理学研究,他们确实发现手记笔记通常比用电脑做笔记更好。

So, today I am going to teach you a way to take notes by hand using what is called " The Cornell Method" .

所以,今天我将教你一种使用所谓的"康奈尔方法"手记笔记的方法。

This method was developed at Cornell University, and a lot of universities actually encourage students to use this method because it is very good.

这种方法是在康奈尔大学开发的,很多大学实际上鼓励学生使用这种方法,因为它非常好。

So, what is the Cornell Method?

那么,什么是康奈尔方法?

Okay, well, I'm glad you asked.

好吧,好吧,我很高兴你问了。

So, I have here an example of how you would organize your paper.

所以,我在这里举了一个例子,说明你将如何组织你的论文。

Imagine this is your paper that you take your notes on.

想象一下,这是你做笔记的论文。

What you can do is you can make a box just like this where you have a box where you write the title and the date of the lesson, you have a square or a rectangle here, you have a rectangle here, and you have a rectangle at the bottom.

你可以做的是,你可以做一个这样的盒子,你有一个盒子,你写标题和课程的日期,你有一个正方形或一个矩形,你有一个矩形在这里,你有一个矩形在底部。

So, in total you have-one, two, three, four -four different rectangles.

所以,总的来说,你有一个,两个,三个,四个 – 四个不同的矩形。

Now, what do you do?

现在,你该怎么办?

So, I already said you write the title here and the date here.

所以,我已经说过你在这里写标题,在这里写日期。

In this column, you're going to write the main idea or the keyword a professor is using.

在本专栏中,您将编写教授使用的主要思想或关键字。

Now, if this is confusing, that's okay because I will show you an example of a finished note.

现在,如果这令人困惑,那没关系,因为我将向您展示一个已完成笔记的示例。

But for now, just to explain, in this column we're going to write any big, important words.

但就目前而言,只是为了解释一下,在本专栏中,我们将写任何重要的大词。

So if you're learning about, you know, gravity, you might write the word: " gravity" here.

所以,如果你正在学习,你知道,重力,你可以在这里写下这个词:"重力"。

You can also write questions here.

您也可以在这里写问题。

" What is gravity? " Or you can write the main idea.

" 什么是重力?"或者你可以写出主要的想法。

So this is just almost like the big ideas that you're listening to.

所以这几乎就像你正在听的大想法一样。

This is where we write the smaller ideas, the details.

这就是我们写小想法,细节的地方。

So if you're learning about history or, you know, something like that, you can write the dates here.

所以,如果你正在学习历史,或者,你知道,类似的东西,你可以在这里写下日期。

Maybe you're learning about Shakespeare, so you might write, you know: " Shakespeare" here and when he was born, when he died.

也许你正在学习莎士比亚,所以你可能会写,你知道:"莎士比亚"在这里,当他出生时,当他去世时。

You can write details, details about what you're learning. Definitions. If you're learning a new word, you can write the meaning here.

你可以写下细节,关于你正在学习的东西的细节。定义。如果你正在学习一个新词,你可以在这里写下它的含义。

If you're taking a science class, you can write your formulas here.

如果你正在上科学课,你可以在这里写下你的公式。

You can write examples here.

您可以在此处编写示例。

Maybe if they're explaining, you know, something about science and something about, you know, planets, you can write an example here about Mercury.

也许如果他们在解释,你知道,一些关于科学的东西,你知道,关于行星的东西,你可以在这里写一个关于水星的例子。

And you can also draw pictures here.

你也可以在这里画画。

A lot of students, they don't put pictures in their notes, but it actually is a great idea to help with understanding and to also help you remember what you're. . .

很多学生,他们不会把图片放在他们的笔记中,但这实际上是一个好主意,可以帮助理解,也帮助你记住你是什么……

What you're learning.

您正在学习的内容。

So here you write the big ideas or the keywords, here is the detail, and finally at the bottom, after, you know, you've gone through the notes. . .

所以在这里你写了大的想法或关键词,这是细节,最后在底部,你知道,你已经浏览了笔记……

So while you're listening to your professor or your teacher, you're writing here and here.

所以当你听你的教授或老师说话时,你正在写这里和这里。

And then once the class is over, you think about what you learned, and you look.

然后一旦课程结束,你就会想起你学到了什么,然后你看着。

You look here, you look here, and then you can write maybe four or five things that you learned today.

你看这里,你看这里,然后你可以写四五件你今天学到的东西。

Just by thinking about that at the end of each class will really, really help you to remember, you know, the material.

只要在每节课结束时思考一下,就能真正地帮助你记住,你知道,材料。

So this is a very active way to take notes because you're organizing things, you're using a lot of brain power which is good, and you're going to remember a lot more than if you just type up everything the professor says on the computer or if you just write everything the professor says on the computer.

所以这是一种非常主动的记笔记的方式,因为你正在组织事情,你使用了大量的脑力,这很好,你会记住比你只是在电脑上输入教授说的所有话,或者你只是把教授在电脑上说的一切写下来要多得多。

The other great thing about this method is it's so easy when you're studying for a test or an exam.

这种方法的另一个好处是,当你为考试或考试而学习时,它是如此容易。

You can find ideas very quickly.

您可以很快找到想法。

So, if you want to go back to about gravity, you can look for: " Okay, where is gravity? Oh, here's gravity." And then you can read up on some of the details about gravity.

所以,如果你想回到重力,你可以寻找:"好吧,重力在哪里?哦,这是重力。然后你可以阅读一些关于重力的细节。

So it's very, very good for organizing your notes, which will help you in terms of your test.

因此,它非常非常有利于组织您的笔记,这将在测试方面为您提供帮助。

So now I'm going to show you an actual example of the Cornell Method with actual notes in them.

现在我要给你们看一个康奈尔方法的实际例子,里面有实际的注释。

Okay, so imagine I'm actually listening to a teacher talk about the history of English, and I've just written my notes.

好吧,想象一下,我实际上正在听一位老师谈论英语的历史,我刚刚写了我的笔记。

So now I'm going to talk about what I wrote.

所以现在我要谈谈我写的东西。

So here is the title.

所以这是标题。

The lesson I listened to is called " English 101" .

我听的课程叫做"英语101"。

Whenever you see " 101" that usually means it's an introduction to something.

每当你看到"101"时,通常意味着它是对某件事的介绍。

I've written the date here.

我在这里写下了日期。

This isn't the real date.

这不是真正的日期。

It's not 2060, but I have no idea when you're going to watch this, so I've decided to just make up a date.

现在不是2060年,但我不知道你什么时候会看这个,所以我决定只编一个日期。

So, here, again, are the key ideas or main words.

所以,这里,再次,是关键思想或主要词。

Or questions.

或问题。

I have here: " What is English? " , " Dialects" , and " American vs. British" .

我在这里有:"什么是英语?","方言"和"美国与英国"。

So, the beauty about this is when I'm studying for my test, I can quickly find the material.

所以,这个的美妙之处在于,当我为我的考试而学习时,我可以很快找到材料。

If I need to find out: What's the difference between America vs.

如果我需要找出:美国与美国有什么区别。

British, I can just scan and go right here.

英国人,我可以扫描并直接进入这里。

Here I have all the details.

在这里,我有所有的细节。

So, notice this has a lot more words than this.

所以,请注意,这比这个有更多的单词。

This is just one or two words, whereas this is a lot more information.

这只是一两个词,而这是更多的信息。

So, here under the question: " What is English? " I wrote: It's official. . .

所以,在问题下:"什么是英语?我写道:这是官方的…

It's the official language in 60 countries.

它是60个国家的官方语言。

It's the most widely learned second language, and it's an Indo-European language.

它是学习最广泛的第二语言,也是印欧语系的语言。

So you'll notice I didn't write full sentences here.

所以你会注意到我在这里没有写完整的句子。

There's no point.

没有意义。

You're trying to write as quickly as you can.

你试图尽可能快地写作。

So instead of, you know, writing: " It's the official language of 60 countries" , I just put: " 60 countries = official" , and I could write " lang" here.

所以,你知道,我没有写:"这是60个国家的官方语言",我只是把:"60个国家=官方",我可以在这里写"lang"。

This is short for " language" .

这是"语言"的缩写。

If you can and you keep hearing the same words again and again in your lecture, you don't have to write them out fully.

如果可以的话,而且你在课堂上一次又一次地听到同样的话,你就不必把它们完全写出来。

You can find a short form to write.

你可以找到一个简短的表格来写。

Any time I see this, I know: " Okay, language." Just like down here: " diff" , for me that's " difference" .

每当我看到这个,我就知道:"好吧,语言。就像下面:"diff",对我来说就是"差异"。

So I don't have to waste time writing it all out.

所以我不必浪费时间把它全部写出来。

Okay, so this is: " What is English? " And then I have dialects: Jamaican, Indian, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, etc. A dialect is a type of English.

好吧,所以这是:"什么是英语?然后我有方言:牙买加,印度,澳大利亚,新西兰,加拿大等。方言是英语的一种类型。

There are many different types of English.

有许多不同类型的英语。

And maybe the professor talks too quickly and you have no idea: " What is a dialect? I don't understand." That's. . .

也许教授说话太快了,你不知道:"什么是方言?我不明白。那是。。。

That's good.

很好。

What you can do with that is down here you can also write questions you have about the material.

你可以用它来做什么,在这里你也可以写你对材料的问题。

You know: " I don't know what a dialect is. Look up later." Or something like this.

你知道:"我不知道方言是什么。稍后再查。或类似的东西。

So this can also help you see what you need to look into or what you can ask your teacher or professor about. Okay. And then over here I have: " American vs. British" .

因此,这也可以帮助您了解需要研究的内容,或者您可以向老师或教授询问的内容。好。然后在这里,我有:"美国与英国"。

So, the teacher was talking about American vs.

所以,老师说的是美国人与美国人。

British English.

英式英语。

So I wrote: " er" pronunciation, it's different between American and British English.

所以我写道:"呃"的发音,它在美国英语和英国英语之间是不同的。

The vocabulary can be different.

词汇可以不同。

And again, I would write a bunch of examples here.

再一次,我会在这里写一堆例子。

You know, maybe I might write: " lift vs. elevator is different" , or you know, real examples.

你知道,也许我可能会写:"电梯与电梯是不同的",或者你知道,真实的例子。

This is just an example.

这只是一个例子。

It's not totally filled out.

它没有完全填写。

You would have a lot more detail when you listen to a lecture or a lesson.

当你听讲座或课程时,你会有更多的细节。

So if you're actually interested in American vs.

因此,如果您真的对美国与。

British English and the differences, we do have a video on that at www. engvid. com. And what I actually highly recommend is for you to try to listen to that video, and you know, practice this method.

英式英语和差异,我们在 www.engvid.com 确实有一个关于此的视频。我实际上强烈推荐的是,让你试着听那个视频,你知道,练习这个方法。

Write the title of the video, the date, write some of the key points the teacher is going to talk about, and some of the details.

写下视频的标题,日期,写下老师将要谈论的一些关键点,以及一些细节。

You can do that with any videos on our website and, you know, for practice and it will actually help you learn the material better and remember the material more.

您可以通过我们网站上的任何视频来做到这一点,并且您知道,用于练习,它实际上将帮助您更好地学习材料并更多地记住材料。

And then you can use this again in high school, in university, in college, in business meetings, wherever you need to take notes.

然后你可以在高中,大学,大学,商务会议,任何你需要做笔记的地方再次使用它。

The last thing I wanted to say is: " Today I learned" .

我最不想说的是:"今天我学到了"。

Once you have listened to the lecture, think about the material and think about: " What did I learn today? " So maybe today I learned that there are many types of English.

一旦你听完讲座,想想材料,想想:"我今天学到了什么?所以也许今天我了解到英语有很多种类型。

There's Jamaican, Indian, Australian, there's so many different types.

有牙买加人,印度人,澳大利亚人,有很多不同的类型。

Maybe today I learned there's a difference between American English and British English in terms of " er" pronunciation.

也许今天我了解到美式英语和英式英语在"er"发音方面存在差异。

I recommend writing, you know, multiple things here.

我建议在这里写很多东西。

You usually learn at least four or five things in a lesson, probably more.

你通常会在一堂课上学到至少四到五件事,可能更多。

But what you can do is think about: What are the four most important things I learned today?

但你能做的是思考:我今天学到的最重要的四件事是什么?

And write those four of the most important things down.

并把这四件最重要的事情写下来。

This will really, really help you to remember the material.

这将非常非常有效地帮助你记住这些材料。

So, I'd like you to come visit our website at www. engvid. com. There, we have a lot more resources on all sorts of different topics where you can practice using this method while you watch our videos.
